Beyond the Gate: The Last Gozzaki

Chapter 99: The Architect’s Limits

Xyron rubbed his temples, his head throbbing from the sudden influx of fame and responsibility. He stood in a high-tech subterranean room within the Titans’ base, surrounded by glowing monitors. Mr. X sat in front of a massive array of PCs, his fingers dancing across the keyboards.

“So, the reluctant King is finally here,” Mr. X said without turning around. “Now that you’re the Head of the Gozzaki Clan, your first priority is clear: take the number one spot back from the Ryuzaki Clan. They’ve looked down on your name for long enough.”

Xyron leaned against a cold metal wall, crossing his arms. “I don’t care about rankings. I was forced into this. Honestly, I’m thinking about making Maki the Head. She actually cares about the Gozzaki name; I just want to watch my anime and be left alone.”

Mr. X stopped typing and turned his chair. “A dangerous move. But regardless of who wears the crown, you need to expand. Add a rule allowing non-Gozzakis to join. We need numbers.”

“Already did it,” Xyron replied flatly. “First thing I told Lamar.”

Mr. X smirked. “Efficient. I like that.” He tapped a key, and a high-resolution image of a man appeared on the screen, along with a GPS coordinate for a fortified mansion. “This is your target. I’ll send the full dossier to your phone.”

Xyron stared at the screen, but his mind was elsewhere. He watched Mr. X—a man who claimed his thoughts could become reality. ‘If he can manifest anything he thinks of,’ Xyron wondered, ‘why doesn’t he just think the target out of existence? Could he… could he think my parents back to life?’

“You’re thinking it again, aren’t you?” Mr. X’s voice broke the silence.

Xyron didn’t flinch. “If your thoughts become real, why do you need me? Why not just ‘think’ them dead?”

“It doesn’t work like that,” Mr. X explained, his tone becoming instructional. “My power cannot directly kill or injure a human being. It cannot revive a dead soul either. It only affects inanimate objects, animals, and non-human entities like your Shadow Guardians. The real benefit is my brain—it’s been overclocked. I can remember everything, calculate every outcome, and manifest small items like knives, food, or clothes. But creating physical matter wastes immense energy. That’s why I need a sword—and that sword is you.”

Editor’s Comment:

The revelation of Mr. X’s power limits is a crucial turning point. He isn’t a God; he’s a biological supercomputer. This makes the partnership between him and Xyron purely symbiotic—Mr. X provides the ‘Brain’ (intelligence and strategy), while Xyron provides the ‘Brawn’ (the S-Rank physical force). However, Xyron’s desire to pass the leadership to Maki shows he is still trying to escape the destiny others have written for him.

Beyond the Gate: The Last Gozzaki

Chapter 71: The Price of Peace

[Sunday – Executive Meeting Room, Tokyo]

Wang Rise walked into the soundproof meeting room with his usual cold, untouchable aura. Waiting for him were the South Korean Chairman, two S-Rank Knights, and two Rank-1 Knights serving as bodyguards. Wang didn’t offer a handshake; he simply sat down and leaned back.

“Alright, Chairman. You asked for my time. Start talking,” Wang said.

The Korean Chairman activated a digital screen on the table. It showed horrifying footage of a Gate Break in Seoul. Monsters were flooding the streets, and local knights were being overwhelmed.

“Mr. Wang Rise,” the Chairman began, his voice shaky. “As you can see, we are losing control. Our knights are exhausted. I need the Master Guild to intervene. We need 3 to 5 of your S-Rank knights stationed in our country immediately.”

Wang smirked, looking at the carnage on the screen like it was a boring movie. “I can give you six S-Rank knights. But you know I don’t work for free. What’s the price?”

“Whatever you ask,” the Chairman replied.

“60 million dollars for the deployment,” Wang said flatly.

One of the Korean S-Rank knights slammed his hand on the table. “60 million?! That’s robbery! You’re taking advantage of a crisis!”

Wang’s eyes shifted toward the knight, and the temperature in the room seemed to drop. “You clearly haven’t seen my knights in action. They aren’t just S-Rank; they are the strongest in the world. If you want a discount, call someone else and watch your city burn.”

The Chairman silenced his knight with a glare. “It’s fine. We have no other choice. Portals across the world are opening at 2x speed. If we can get your men, we’ll pay.”

“Good. If the gossip is over, give me the papers. I’m a busy man,” Wang said. He scanned the contract, scribbled his signature, and walked out without a second look.

As the door closed, the Korean Chairman let out a breath he didn’t know he was holding. “Every time that man enters a room, I feel like I’m suffocating. One wrong word, and he’d erase us all.”

[Xyron’s Current Home]

Xyron walked through the front door, stretching his arms. “Man, today’s raid was almost a joke. I just sat there while the Guardians cleared the whole dungeon in ten minutes.”

Maki looked up from her phone. “Welcome back, brother.”

“How’s Kim?” Xyron asked, his tone turning serious. “Has he said anything yet?”

Maki sighed, shaking her head. “No. He bought a small house and moved out yesterday. He’s completely shut down, Xyron. He won’t talk to anyone.”

Xyron nodded slowly. “I’ll give him some more time. Loss like that… it doesn’t go away fast.”

Maki suddenly changed the subject, her eyes lighting up as she shoved her phone in Xyron’s face. “Anyway! Remember we talked about buying a new house? Look at this one!”

Xyron took the phone and looked at the listing. It was a massive, ultra-modern villa with a training hall, a pool, and high-level mana security. Then he saw the price tag: 50 Million Dollars.

“50 million?!” Xyron choked. “Maki, are you trying to bankrupt me? I’m a knight, not a bank!”

Maki pouted, her eyes turning watery. “But you have the money! You’re the champion of the Mega Fight! Don’t be a cheapskate, brother.”

Xyron looked at her, then at his bank balance which was overflowing from the tournament rewards and dungeon loot. “Fine, fine! Don’t start crying. Link my account and buy it.”

Maki jumped up, screaming with joy. “YES! Finally! I can’t wait to leave this old place!”

Editor’s Comment:

Wang Rise is making millions out of the global portal crisis, solidifying his spot as the world’s shadow ruler. Meanwhile, Xyron is learning that even with 100,000 shadow soldiers, he can’t win an argument against his sister. But Kim’s disappearance into his new house is a bad sign—grief can turn a man into a hero, or a very dangerous villain.
