Chapter 100: The Century Milestone
Xyron stood at the exit of the Titans’ hideout, adjusting his collar. “Alright, I’m heading out,” he told Mr. X.
“Don’t take too long,” Mr. X replied, his eyes never leaving the screens. “The window for this target is narrow.”
As Xyron walked down the quiet road, he checked the date on his watch. March 24th. “Maki’s birthday is tomorrow,” he muttered to himself. “If I want to celebrate it with her, I have to finish this job tonight. No excuses.”
Without wasting another second, Xyron focused his energy. Teleport.
In a blur of space and time, Xyron appeared directly in the middle of his bedroom at the Gozzaki mansion. He didn’t expect to see anyone, but his room was already occupied. Maki, Kim, and Yuhima were sitting on his rug, surrounded by boxes of expensive-looking sweets.
“Aaaah!” the three of them screamed in unison, nearly dropping their food.
“Whoa!” Xyron jumped back, clutching his chest. “You guys nearly gave me a heart attack! What are you doing in my room?”
Maki recovered first, wiping some powdered sugar from her lip. “We didn’t scare you; you scared us! Where were you?”
“Nowhere… just got caught up with some people,” Xyron lied smoothly, eyeing the box of sweets Maki was holding.
Kim and Yuhima were already stuffing their faces, ignoring the tension. Xyron walked over and sat on the edge of the bed. “Hey, I’m the new Clan Head, right? Give me some of those sweets. I deserve a treat.”
Maki pulled the box away, a mischievous glint in her eyes. “No way. You’re already ‘Head’ of the clan, you don’t need to be ‘fat’ too. You don’t get any.”
Xyron puffed out his cheeks, sulking like a five-year-old. He flopped onto the bed, staring at the ceiling. The others couldn’t help but burst into laughter at the sight of the world’s strongest knight acting like a spoiled brat.
Feeling a bit guilty, Maki picked up a small, glazed piece of candy and walked over to him. “Fine, fine. Open up, Leader.”
Xyron’s eyes lit up. He turned his face toward her and opened his mouth, ready for the prize. Just as he was about to bite down, Maki yanked her hand back and popped the sweet into her own mouth.
“Mmm, so good!” she teased, chewing happily. “You were too slow, Xyron!”
Xyron groaned loudly, flailing his arms and legs against the mattress in a mock tantrum. Kim and Yuhima were practically rolling on the floor laughing. For a brief moment, the burden of the Gozzaki name and the threat of the Titans felt worlds away.
Editor’s Comment:
Chapter 100 serves as a perfect ‘calm before the storm.’ Seeing Xyron interact so naturally with Maki, Kim, and Yuhima reminds us why he fights so hard to protect them. The contrast between the cold-blooded leader who met the dying Chairman and the goofy brother who gets teased over sweets is what makes Xyron a compelling protagonist. But as the clock ticks toward midnight, the ‘Target’ is still out there waiting.
