Beyond the Gate: The Last Gozzaki

Chapter 104: The Restricted Blade

It was the dead of night on March 24, 2038. Xyron stood in the shadows of his backyard, his eyes tired and his body aching from two days of sleeplessness. “Teleport!” he commanded, visualizing Baron Varkas’s private bedroom.

But instead of the luxurious suite, he materialized in front of a cold, stone wall on the mansion’s exterior. A blue holographic system interface flickered into existence before his eyes:

Warning: Insufficient Soul Energy. Due to prolonged sleep deprivation, your mana conduit is unstable. Long-range teleportation is restricted.

“Damn it,” Xyron cursed, clutching his forehead. “Two days without sleep is taking a toll.” He looked at the massive mansion. He needed a workaround. He glanced at the ring on his left hand—an artifact capable of storing raw energy. “If I dump my remaining soul energy into this ring, I can stabilize my output, but I’ll be locked out of my high-tier abilities.”

He focused, pushing every ounce of his volatile energy into the silver band. The system pinged again, updating his status: Energy Transferred. Access restricted to: Soul Shield and Low-Rank Dagger manifestation. Guardians and high-tier reality warping disabled.

“I guess I’m doing this the hard way,” Xyron muttered.

He crouched, observing the perimeter. Five elite guards patrolled the main gate. Avoiding them, he scaled the sheer wall of the mansion like a spider, moving silently toward the rear. Near a shimmering swimming pool, he stopped to calculate his next move. The Baron’s room was on the second floor; the window was left slightly ajar.

Just as he prepared to jump, a cold metal barrel pressed firmly against the back of his head. “Turn around. Slowly,” a gruff voice commanded.

Xyron froze, his heart racing. He turned, finding himself face-to-face with a guard who was trembling. The guard’s eyes widened as he realized who it was. “Wait… you’re the S-Ranker, Xyron Gozzaki?”

Xyron didn’t waste a breath on pleasantries. With lightning speed, he delivered a crushing kick to the guard’s groin. As the man buckled, his pistol clattered to the ground. Xyron didn’t stop—he kicked the guard, sending him flying into the deep end of the pool with a massive splash.

Snatching the pistol from the ground, Xyron vaulted upward, grabbing the ledge of the second-floor window and hauling himself inside. He landed softly on the plush carpet.

Baron Varkas stood in front of a mirror, meticulously grooming his hair. He caught Xyron’s reflection in the glass and spun around, his face turning pale with terror.

“You…” Varkas gasped, reaching for a button on his desk. “How did you get past the security?”

Editor’s Comment:

The restriction on Xyron’s powers makes him feel more like a human, which increases the stakes significantly. He can’t just ‘thought-blast’ his way out of this anymore. Baron Varkas being an ‘Information Broker’ means he might know something about the Titans or Xyron’s past that we haven’t uncovered yet. That ‘panic button’ he’s reaching for could bring a whole army of A-Rank guards into the room.
