Chapter 105: The Fragile Blade
Baron Varkasâs finger hovered over the panic button. In a split second, Xyron hurled the pistol he had snatched from the guard. It struck Varkasâs wrist with a sickening crack, forcing his hand away. Xyron lunged, throwing a powerful punch at the Baronâs face, but Varkas ducked. Xyronâs fist slammed into the concrete wallâthe wall didn’t budge, but Xyronâs knuckles turned raw and bloody.
“You’re nothing without that glowing energy, boy!” Varkas sneered, dodging Xyronâs desperate kick and retaliating with a brutal strike that sent Xyron flying across the room.
Xyron struggled to his feet, his mind racing. ‘I never realized how weak I am without soul energy. Iâve relied on it for so long, my body has forgotten how to fight like a human.’
Before he could stabilize, Varkas grabbed Xyron by his collar and smashed him through the large glass balcony door. Shards of glass sliced into Xyronâs face, chest, and arms, drawing deep, jagged lines of blood. As Varkas scrambled toward the alarm button once more, Xyron, barely conscious, threw his leg out and tripped him. Varkas crashed to the floor. Xyron scrambled, grabbed a sharp shard of glass, and drove it deep into the Baronâs chest.

Back home, Maki sat up in bed, jolted awake by a strange, metallic thud echoing from downstairs. She crept out to the living room and froze. Kage was standing there, holding boxes of birthday supplies, his human disguise flickering. As he stumbled, a birthday cake nearly slipped from his hands, but Maki lunged forward and caught it.
“Kage? What are you doing? Where is Xyron?” she asked, her voice trembling. Kage didn’t answer; he just kept placing the decorations down, his eyes glowing with an eerie, rhythmic pulse. Maki rushed to Xyronâs room and threw the door open. Empty. The cold silence of the room confirmed her worst fears.
[Scene Shift: The Mansion Fight]
Xyron was leaning against a crumbling wall, clutching his side. His breath came in ragged, wet gasps. Opposite him, Baron Varkas was also gasping, his shirt soaked in crimson from the glass shard in his chest. But despite the wounds, Varkasâs desperation gave him an edge.
Xyronâs hand gripped a broken knife from a decorative display. He saw the Baronâs hand inching toward the fallen pistol on the floor. With his last remaining ounce of strength, Xyron sprinted, his boots sliding in the blood pooling on the marble floor.
Just as Xyron reached out, Varkasâs fingers wrapped around the handle of the gun. The Baron swung his arm up, aiming directly at Xyronâs heart. Time seemed to slow down. Xyron could see the barrel of the gun looking like a dark, inevitable tunnel of death.
Editor’s Comment:
The level of grit in this fight is unmatched. Xyron is fighting a ‘normal’ human battle, and it’s proving to be his greatest challenge. If he dies here, the Titans’ mission and his promises to Maki die with him. The fact that Maki is starting to piece things together at home adds a ticking clock elementâwill she find him before the Baron pulls that trigger?
