Chapter 74: The Traitor’s Regret
[Kim’s New House]
The Lucifer Fragment stood over Kim, absorbing the secrets of Xyron’s movements and weaknesses. “Thanks for the information, Kim. You’ve been… useful,” the Fragment hissed.
Kim, trembling and clutching a photo of Rin, looked up. “Now… fulfill your promise. Revive Rin. Bring her back to me!”
The Fragment’s eyes flickered with a sadistic purple light. He let out a cold, chilling laugh. “Revive her? You truly are a pathetic insect. Did you think a God like me would serve the whims of a human?”
Before Kim could react, the Fragment drove a dark soul-dagger deep into Kim’s stomach. Kim gasped, blood coughing out of his mouth as he slumped against the wall. The Fragment didn’t stop there; he drove another blade into Kim’s leg, pinning him to the floor.
“Remember me, Kim,” the Fragment whispered, leaning into his ear. “And when you die and see your precious Rin in the afterlife, tell her I was the one who sent you there.” With a final, mocking smile, the Fragment dissolved into black smoke and vanished.
The Shadow Guardians Xyron had left behind emerged from the shadows. They had watched everything, bound by Xyron’s order not to interfere unless it was a life-threatening monster. They quickly rushed to Kim, using their dark mana to heal his wounds.
As Kim’s breathing stabilized, he grabbed the lead Guardian’s arm. “Please…” he wheezed. “Don’t tell Xyron. Don’t tell him I gave away his information. I’ll fix this, I promise!”
The Guardians looked at each other. “We will remain silent for now,” one replied. “But your betrayal puts My Lord’s sister in danger. We should inform him.”
“No!” Kim pleaded. “Maki is strong. She’s a Rank-1 Knight now. She can handle herself until I figure out how to stop that thing. Please… just give me time.”
The Guardians hesitated but eventually merged back into the shadows, leaving Kim alone with his guilt and his blood-stained floor.
[Xyron’s New Mansion]
Maki let out a long groan as she flopped onto the king-sized bed in her new room. “Ugh! Moving is officially the worst. I’m exhausted!”
Xyron walked into the room, looking fresh as ever. “The bed looks comfortable. Good. Because I’m heading out for a Raid now.”
Maki bolted upright. “Are you serious?! You didn’t help with a single box, and now you’re leaving me here alone to unpack?”
“Hey, Kage is coming with me,” Xyron said, ignoring her protest. “We need to clear some high-level gates to pay for this 50-million-dollar palace you wanted.”
“Fine! Go!” Maki huffed, reaching for her phone. “What am I supposed to do in this giant house anyway?”
“Do what you always do,” Xyron smirked. “Spend eight hours on TikTok youtube x etc.”
“Hey! I don’t… okay, maybe I do. But bring me fried chicken on your way back!” Maki yelled as Xyron walked toward the door.
“Sure. But don’t complain to me when you get fat,” Xyron teased.
“I won’t! You’re the one who eats junk food every night and blames me!” Maki threw a pillow at him, but Xyron laughed and vanished through the door with Kage following close behind.
[South Korea – Incheon Sector]
The battle was finally over. The last of the S-Rank monsters lay dead in a pool of black ichor. The Archer from Wang’s guild wiped the sweat from his brow and shouldered his glowing bow.
He walked over to his injured comrade, who was leaning against a destroyed tank. Without a word, he hoisted his friend over his shoulder. A Masters Guild helicopter descended from the smoky sky, its blades whipping up a storm of dust.
“Mission complete,” the Archer spoke into his comms as they boarded the chopper. “The sector is clear. But tell Mr. Wang… these portals aren’t just opening faster. They’re getting stronger. We need more men.”
As the helicopter flew away, a dark shadow moved within the clouds above Korea—the Lucifer Fragment was already watching its next target.
Editor’s Comment:
Kim has crossed a line he can never uncross. By giving Lucifer information, he has put Xyron and Maki in the crosshairs. Even though he’s healed, the psychological damage is done. Meanwhile, Xyron is blissfully unaware, heading into a raid while Maki stays home, vulnerable. The Masters Guild is realizing that the global crisis is escalating beyond their control. The pieces are moving, and unfortunately for Xyron, one of those pieces is his best friend.
